Item 2307-4 W Section 4.3 Dispenser Filters

Missouri Department of Agriculture | 2012

Consideration of amendment to NIST Handbook 130, Engine Fuels and Automotive Lubricants Regulations to mandate 10 micron or smaller filters on dispensers for all diesel/biodiesel

  • Exceptions would be:
    • Dispensers with flow rates over 15 gallons/min shall use 30 micron or smaller filters
    • Dispensers with flow rates equal to or less than 15 gallons/min may use 30 or smaller micron filters December – March in Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, S. Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, N.Y., Vermont, N.H., Maine, N. Dakota (November – March); sunset date April 2020
  • Discussion: diesel passenger vehicles do not have same sophisticated filtration systems found on commercial duty vehicles so 10 micron filters are necessary vs. 10 micron filters would be too restrictive of flow and could cause clogging, particularly in colder climates
